Privacy policy

Last updated 25 October 2026

The short version

  • We keep what you tell the coach, what you upload, and basic information about how the site is used.
  • We use it to work out your strengths and the conditions you work best in, and to match you to jobs.
  • We never sell your data and we don't use it for advertising.
  • Employers only see your details if you apply to one of their roles.
  • You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from your profile.

Who we are

Broad Careers is run by Syster, a small business based in Victoria, Australia. When this policy says “we” or “us”, that's who it means. You can reach us about anything in this policy at contact@syster.info.

What we collect

  • Your account. Your email address, your name if you give it, and your password. Passwords are stored scrambled by our sign-in provider and we never see them.
  • Guest sessions. If you chat without an account, we create an anonymous guest session so your conversation can be saved. It has no email or name attached.
  • Your conversations. Your messages to the coach and the coach's replies.
  • What we work out from them. The skills and working preferences the coach picks up, each stored with the words from your conversation that support it, plus your job matches and any talent report you create.
  • Things you add. Profile details such as a short bio, location and the kind of role you want, any CV you upload, and any applications you make.
  • How the site is used. Pages visited, the link that brought you here (for example a campaign tag on a LinkedIn post), a random visit ID, and basic device and browser details. We also use Microsoft Clarity to see where people get stuck. Everything inside the signed-in app, including your name, chats, skills and matches, is blanked out in those recordings.

You don't need to tell us about any health condition or diagnosis to use Broad Careers. If you mention one in a chat, it is stored as part of that chat, and it goes when you delete your account.

How we use it

  • To run the coaching conversation and remember it between visits.
  • To work out your strengths and working preferences, show you the evidence behind each one, and match you to jobs that fit.
  • To create your talent report when you ask for one.
  • To keep the service safe and working: preventing misuse, limiting how much any one person can use the coach in a day, and fixing problems.
  • To understand, in total rather than person by person, which pages and links bring people in and where the site needs to improve.

Matches are suggestions for you to look at. We don't use your data to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

How the AI fits in

The coach is powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. Your messages, and the text of any CV you upload, are sent to Anthropic so it can write the coach's replies and pick out your skills. Anthropic processes this on our behalf and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models.

AI can get things wrong. Everything the coach concludes about you comes with the evidence behind it so you can check it, and you can correct it.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Broad Careers. They only get what they need to do their job for us:

  • Supabase stores our database and files and runs sign-in.
  • Anthropic provides the AI behind the coach.
  • Netlify hosts the website.
  • Microsoft Clarity provides usage analytics, with personal content blanked out as described above.

Employers only see your details if you apply to a role they posted on Broad Careers. They then see your application and the profile details you've added. Many roles link to the employer's own site instead, and nothing is sent to them unless you apply there yourself.

We don't sell, rent or trade your data. We would only disclose it to anyone else if the law required us to.

Where it is stored

Our database, files and AI processing are in the United States. That means your information is stored and processed outside Australia, by the providers listed above.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and everything in it is kept until you delete it. You can do that at any time from your profile page, and it happens straight away.
  • Guest sessions that are never turned into an account may be deleted after 90 days without use.
  • Visit counts. When you delete your account, the record of which pages were visited is kept only as totals, with the link to you removed.
  • Backups. Deleted information can stay in our database provider's backups for a short time until those backups are replaced.

How we protect it

  • Everything travels over encrypted connections.
  • The database only lets you read and change your own information. Your CV is stored privately and only you can open it.
  • Only the person who runs Broad Careers can access the database directly, and only to keep the service running or to help you when you ask.

No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously, and if something went wrong that affected your information we would tell you.

Your choices

  • See and correct it. Your profile shows your details and skills, and you can edit them there. For anything else, email us.
  • Delete it. Use “Delete my account” on your profile page, or email us and we'll do it for you.
  • Complain. Please contact us first so we can put it right. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Cookies

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in, or keep your guest session going. The site can't work without them.
  • bc_sid is a random visit ID, kept for a year, used to count visits and to connect what you did as a guest to the account you create.
  • bc_utm remembers the campaign link that first brought you here, kept for a year.
  • Microsoft Clarity sets its own cookies to group page views into a visit.

Age

Broad Careers is for people aged 16 and over.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If it's a significant change, we'll also say so on the site. See also our terms of use.
